It took three hard weeks of work, but it was all worth it for that 1000$ cash prize! I knew before I started working, the cash prize would be 1000$, since that what the prize was last year! (and the year before that) ((and the year before that))
So obviously the prize money would be the same this year, right? :D

yeah it's a little crap, prizes used to be a big motivating factor for contributors, it seems to be more geared to people who will be motivated by the creative effort, I think that's potentially both good and bad. Good coz it keeps the 'real' people submitting, but bad because it doesn't properly reward outstanding work like your own. I think we all wish NG was doing better off lately :S

You should become a contributor and buy a free-ad membership. That way you're paying them so they pay you back much more. It's a great investment!
P.S. Getting better prizes next year isn't guaranteed. Nor is winning 1st place again :(
